The first day we went to the fabulous Catelllo di Verarazzano for a wine tour, luncheon and tasting of this vineyard. What followed was a deep dive into Chiantis and primarily the Sangiovese grape. I have never been a great fan of 100% Sangiovese wines, but probably from the fact I had not been that experienced in the varietal.
Over 5-courses and many samplings later I came to love the spicy authenticity of the Chianti and the land it abides on. And contrary to the NY Times article, as beautiful as Tuscany is, the wines are equally as compelling, different and beautiful.
So now all I need is a great reason to open one of the Magnums of DOCG Castello di Verrazzano I had shipped back from Italia so I can be transported back again with just in one sniff of the Chianti. Salute!
